-- Silence Interrupted -- by John Herlihy The silence of the wolf The silence of snow The silence of the cloud The silence of light The silence profound In the absence of sound Melodic notes in the air As a psalm, a prayer A rush of rhythmic breaths On the living side of death A calm, meditative song Silence interrupted by a gong That rose into a silence prodigious Serene, utterly pure, religious Silent current thru water running In the cave of ears beauty stunning The music an act of will The silence waiting still Melody until the end Music sweetness to lend The final note to die As silence utters a sigh Left behind in the air The ghost of a prayer - - - - - - Copyright © John Herlihy Sunday 14 April 2024

The way this poem made me feel is hard to explain. I "felt" your words on a certain level, "heard" them on another, and "saw" them on yet another. A true multi-level, multi-sensory experience. Not many other poets could accomplish that feat, but then I've always thought of you as a poet master.
