-- Waiting for Something to Happen -- by John Herlihy How long waiting for something to happen Day after day until something might happen Patient burning embers glowing while waiting Sweet dreams flowing thru veins of wishing The years passed as if nothing ever happened Many years still in future, waiting to happen Beginning to feel like nothing might happen Patience beautiful as nothing ever happened Even things happening never seem to happen Like sea tide, happening as if never happening Until one day every moment began to happen Moments happen never imagined to happen Every intake of breath listened to happening Every outflow of breath heard as happening Recalling what happened and didn’t happen Still waiting for more of something to happen At any moment something about to happen The moment finally arrived, about to happen No longer waiting for something to happen Something happened, the last thing to happen. - - - - - - Copyright © John Herlihy Saturday 4 May 2024

Wow! John, there is a burst of originality in these lines. It makes me wonder what you were feeling, even amidst these lines that indicate the feeling which affected me as �pensive� and �ready� �open.� This felt to me as though I was walking in the Zen garden next to these tremendous lines of awareness. Barefoot. My little student self listening to the �Patience beautiful as nothing ever happened�. � I�d better print this out and tape it up next to the one of yours already next to my bathroom mirror: �Questions Someone Asked.� Thank you* ~~ djl
