-- Bear Witness --
by John Herlihy
Living perpetually in the nearness of the far horizon,
Touching us with its closeness from a great distance.
Surrounding us in the embrace of its enveloping circle,
Awakening us from slumber to rise and bear witness.
Indeed the horizon always there before us, never lost,
Sitting on the edge of the world, reaching for beyond.
Filling us with the spirit of hope and desire at little cost,
Tempting us with future worlds for which we have longed.
The distant horizon of the world mimics our inner horizon,
The limited self forever in search of the otherworldly self.
The near and distant horizons that will show us the way,
Lead us into our future selves with no need to look back.
True daylight sets with the sun to make room for the night,
While true dawn climbs over the horizon, let there be light.

I prefer sticking to our wonderful world and all of the horizons there that we haven't explored or experienced yet… You much more than I. And people, the glorious friendly and happy people the world over. And now, we have the encyclopedias on computers and can delve into anything we want.
You often refer to the cycle of night and day because our world turns every 24 hours approximately half in the light and half in the dark. All life on the planet has evolved to accommodate, either use the time for rest, or the time for activity.
What good is bearing witness without sharing with everyone else?
