-- The Joy of the Journey -- by John Herlihy The sadness of the journey Lies in what we come to know. The joy of the journey Lies in what we still don’t know. The hardship of the journey Lies in where the journey leads. The ease of the journey Lies in where it promises to lead. The voice of the journey Lies in the guidance along the way. The silence of the journey Lies in the solitude of the way. Any cowardice in the journey Will leave the voyager far behind. All the courage in the journey Will give the voyager strength of mind. The length of the journey Shortens with distance. The width of the journey Narrows with persistence. The blessing of the journey Lies in feeling that the soul is kissed. The curse of the journey Lies in something along the way missed. The departure of the journey Feels like the beginning of an end. The arrival of the journey Feels like the end of a beginning. The heart of the journey Lies in the effort the journeyer will endure. MY JOURNEY...HMMMMM. OFTEN I HAVE AN HONEST CONVERSATION WITH MYSELF AND, FOR ME, THE PEACE, HOPE AND INSPIRATION OF THIS MY JOURNEY LIES IN ...MY DESTINATION. THE STRENGTH OF MY JOURNEY, THE CONTENTMENT, CALM AND HOPE OF MY JOURNEY IS...MY DESTINATION. I WOULD HAVE GIVEN-UP ON THIS JOURNEY A LONG TIME AGO IF NOT FOR...'THAT CITY NOT MADE BY HANDS' WHICH LIES BEFORE ME. I'VE GOT MY INVITATION AND I WILL NOT GIVE-IN OR TURN AROUND...I PRESS ON, FOR THE 'PRIZE'... KEEPING MY EYE ON THAT 'ETERNAL PROMISE' THAT LIES AHEAD. THROUGH THE GOOD AND BAD, LAUGHTER AND TEARS...THE JOY OF THIS JOURNEY...IS MY DESTINATION. THIS SHARING STIRRED ME UP, MY FRIEND, THANK YOU! LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS.

Your pencil is very sharp here, John. Philosophy discussions with you must be enthralling. Campfire talk that goes into the wee morning hours, I�d guess. The very first stanza holds the most fasceted diamond in my eyes�. ��what we come to know.�. and ��.what we still don�t know.� I find those two lines exceedingly profound. So now I have a new stanza to print out and tape next to my bathroom mirror. It�s going to get crowded in that space if you keep this up. Maybe a corkboard on the side for me. Hahaha� ~~ djl

I've always found that, while on a journey, I found much that I didn't anticipate, and most of it was very good. I pity those who are unwilling to take the journey as far as it will take them. For as your poem describes, the arrival always begs another beginning

As your poem expresses, our journey can be a conundrum for life, finding few opportunities to feel any trek of the mind or heart is over. There are many of us who wish it to stay that way. Thanks for reminding us of a few such journeys.
