-- Finding Peace --
by John Herlihy
I wonder if in this world I will ever find peace,
Peace of a thousand hours, each minute pearled.
Peace as faithful companion, beating without cease,
Nature’s tranquility as vision of a banner unfurled.
Peace there in mountain peaks or in falling snow,
The pitter-patter of light rain, falling autumn leaves.
Nature can express itself in ways we never know,
The tender caress to be felt in a perfumed breeze.
A thousand mirrors reflect ways to destroy peace,
Intruding into our lives before peace may take hold.
Mind ever vigilant handling challenges without cease,
While the emotions of the heart the true story told.
In search of peace, we have countless years expended,
Travelled across vast oceans to reach its distant shore.
Even now in old age, the search for peace never ended,
Found perhaps only in the deepest recesses of life’s core.
Occasionally, I see it past midnight, there in the room,
Its fleeting presence captured in the light of moonglow.
Those brief moments, I feel its essence as a lily in bloom,
Only to disappear again into the night thru my window.

"Peace of a thousand hours, each minute pearled"
is especially poignant.
Rebecca
We were born from a very violent place. The elements we depend upon were mostly created from exploding stars. The very earth we stand on was born of violent collision of many smaller masses including a large planetoid that hit the Earth and created the Moon. Extinctions like those of the dinosaurs allowed us to come out of hiding and become humans.
The whole world of nature is a seething world of predator and prey, eat or be eaten, admit the tranquility we love. Probably why we are so violent toward one another.
