-- Bookends of the Present --

by John Herlihy

The past is past

The future is future

The past sometimes present

The future never present

The past the place we come from

The future the place where we go

Coming back into the past

Going forth into the future

We leave the past behind

We stride into the future

We relive the past

We never relive the future

We escape the past

We long for the future

We try to leave the past

We try to enter the future

The past and future

We think of in the present

The past and future

The bookends of the present

WE NEED OUR PAST AND OUR PRESENT TO WALK INTO OUR FUTURE. NOTHING...JUST HAPPENS. ALL THINGS, GOOD OR BAD... HAVE A PURPOSE. IT IS UP TO US TO ASK GOD FOR DIRECTION AS TO HOW TO USE 'ALL OUR EXPERIENCES' FOR A POSITIVE FUTURE. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

Interesting imagery. I like it. I wonder what "book" fills the space between?

An interesting way of describing all the way we use those words describing time and distinct categories that are constantly changing. Like they say, "time flies."

John! You've got me going back and forth!!! Seriously, yes, we are the sum total of our life's events and if we keep on looking in the rear view mirror, we won't see where we are going. So, Woot! Woot!...for the present!!

Love ya!

Jane

Visions of A Skylark Dressed in Black by Aberjhani

“The woman or man who is a poet, or fiction writer, or playwright, or all of these, is engaged constantly in a jazz ballet of vocabularies, passions, genders, histories, perspectives, death, love, and life. The music of revelation announces itself to
