-- Visions of Nature --
by John Herlihy
Where all the visions of which the scriptures speak,
Stark visions of grandeur there on a mountain peak.
On snow-capped mountains to the horizon we stare,
Through the cave of the heart flows a river of prayer.
Deep with in nature’s sanctuary a cow bell is heard,
Dawn light ushers the day in with the song of a bird.
Journey into the interior begins at the world’s rim,
Night departs on its own journey with feelings grim.
Such distances, the oceans, the deserts all so vast,
Vaster still the high heavens that will eternally last.
In the sanctified realm of silence, we solemnly listen,
While the stars in the night sky mysteriously glisten.
Despite their great age, youthfulness twinkles inside
Timely in the heavens, in their timelessness we abide
Time as fleeing ghost that we cannot call our own,
Nature as ours, whispered in the ear, as wind blown.
