-- Nothing Ever Happens --

by John Herlihy

Nothing ever happens,

That was not meant to happen,

Not in the mind able to deal with and reckon.

Nothing ever happens,

Without any sense of purpose,

We learn, suffer, grow deep within us.

Nothing ever happens,

That we cannot process and bear,

Overcome any hardship thru devotion and prayer.

Nothing ever happens,

That we cannot stand up to and face,

Each of us a noble member of the human race.

Nothing ever happens,

That we cannot fully accept,

Put into proper perspective without regret.

Nothing ever happens,

To make us turn away,

In meeting challenges, we are here to stay.

Nothing ever happens,

To rob us of our feelings kind,

To accept one’s destiny with peace of mind.

Still things happen,

That upon us will take their toll,

The sounding of the hour resonates within the soul.

NOTHING...E-V-E-R...HAPPENS THAT ALMIGHTY GOD IS NOT IN TOTAL CONTROL OF. AND THAT IS THE BOTTOM LINE MY FRIEND, INDEED. WE HAVE TO HAVE THE FAITH TO BELIEVE THAT THIS IS SO...BECAUSE THE WORD OF GOD TELLS US SO. WE CANNOT ALWAYS UNDERSTAND THE THINGS HE ALLOWS BUT BY FAITH...WE TRUST HIM AND...PRESS ON, AMEN. THANKS FOR THE SHARE. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

Yes, much is said in this short exploration, but so much more needs to be said and acted upon for any hope of righting the ship. Perhaps it could be said that before the soul can be dealt with, Man needs to correct an irrational way of thinking and being. Thanks for posting.

The first two stances are determination. When every test of eventuality turns out to be simply random. But in later stanzas you refer to human ability to adapt to almost any kind of circumstance by our power of understanding and reasoning.

Although (IMO) there is an argument to be made philosophically concerning the content of this, there is certainly something to be said about overcoming 'hardship' with prayer. The recent butchering of the hostages by Hamas took a toll on my wife and I. I fear the fires of war over there are going to soon become a conflagration. Thank you for sharing. A heartfelt piece. Peace. r

Next Arrivals by Robin Ouzman Hislop

Robin Ouzman Hislop's poetry is certainly in dialogue with some of the key architects of the 'poetics of indeterminacy' – both the Modernist strands represented by the likes of Beckett and Stein, and the postmodernist strands represented, initially,
