-- Friendship --

by John Herlihy

Friendship bears with it a sacred bond,

Shining in starlight as if by magic wand.

There in the day as gentle winds blow.

In dark of night drenched in moonglow.

Wrapped in stainless steel with no rust,

Bound together, characterized by trust.

True friends sitting together on a porch,

With friendship glowing as an inner torch.

At times the bond may be put to the test,

When all said and done the bond still blest.

Who knows the mystery of having a friend,

Always by your side from now til the end.

In the night sky shimmering light from afar,

Light in darkness from a single solitary star.

One person who makes you feel at home,

In this lonely world under heaven’s dome.

As close to the heart as a stranger distant,

Sentiments of the soul forever persistent.

I've had a lot of friends over the years though many were in fact little more than acquaintances. But I have had a few very close friends who were the family I wish I'd had all along. In them I am exceedingly blessed.

MY MOMMA TOLD ME THAT...IF ONE FINDS JUST ONE TRUE FRIEND IN THIS WORLD, THEY ARE TRULY BLESSED TO HAVE DONE SO. AS A CHILD, OF COURSE I TOOK HER WISE COUNSEL WITH A GRAIN OF SALT. HOWEVER, I HAVE LIVED TO SEE HER WORDS RING VERY TRUE, INDEED. SO GLAD THAT I FOUND MY TRUE FRIEND, AMEN. THANK YOU. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

Sadly, true friendship is rare anymore. But when it is found, it becomes a sheltering tree, one that nourishes and inspires. I find wisdom in what C.S. Lewis posits: "Friendship is unnecessary. Like philosophy or art, it has no survival value; rather friendship is one of those things that gives value to survival." Yes! A great blessing when it is found. Enjoyed your thoughts. Peace. r

A thorough example of what true friendship really is. The idea of staying together through thick and thin runs through it. We all need at least one good friend. And it certainly is a lonely world if you don't have one that you can confide with about anything.

Still Living on my Feet by Tichaona Chinyelu

Still Living on my Feet is the follow up to Tichaona Chinyelu’s first book, In the Whirlwind, which was rooted in a sense of hard-hitting revolutionary black love. However, in this sophomore effort, Tichaona brings the revolutionary essence from deep
