-- The Last Great Love Song --
by John Herlihy
This is my last great love song
Sober rhythms sounding a gong
On the lilting notes of a piano
Whispered echoes pianissimo
Tales of love spun over years
The melody recalled in tears
The many years now spent
Much love borrowed, lent
Dressed up in love’s attire
All awash in love’s desire
Lost in the abyss of time
Still in moments sublime
Love lifted from despair
Found in solemn prayer
One last feeling awoken
One last love song spoken
The sweet bird of love flown
Into the wind as spirit blown
