-- The Fire of the Imagination --
by John Herlihy
The fire of the imagination burns fulsome and bright,
Illuminating countless mysteries in the dark of night.
The imagination as petals of a bud struggling to unfold,
Each petal a fragrant thought the imagination to hold.
This tabula rasa probes the horizon, then leaps beyond,
Searching for the divine sparks from the celestial wand.
The stars treasure their secrets sending forth light thin,
Moonlight reveals mysteries to inspire the poet’s whim.
A faculty deliriously empty waiting patiently to be filled,
Thoughtlessness has its moments as does a heart stilled.
Soon darkness of the imagination turns into murky light,
As dawn glows on the horizon killing the panther of night.
A lake shimmering within us as a quicksilver mirage,
A magnificent garden where we pick a single corsage.
Who needs idle thoughts when our imagination is kind,
A sense of wonder breathes spirit in a questioning mind.

Some nice similes like, "as a quicksilver mirage."
However, my dreams don't seem to be mysteries. They are more like revelations of things I might have touched on in my mind but are now revealed fully. Great stuff for stories.
