-- Finding Solutions --
by John Herlihy
Grief,
A stray dog that doesn’t go away
Give it a home where it can live
Sorrow
A bag of stones we carry around
The passing days will lighten the load
Anger
A red hot flame that singes the mind
Douse the spear in cooling water
Impatience
An agitated pond rippled by the winds of waiting
Feel the touch of the gentle breeze
Bitterness
A mouthful of lemon juices tasting of gall
Drink the nectar of the honeycomb
Resentment
Feels like the clawing of cat paws
Trim the sharpness of the nails
Ambition
A surging river breaking the dam
Follow the tracks in winter snow
Ignorance
Dark clouds blocking the light
Wait for the approaching dawn
Idleness
In the desert of the ordinary
Let the hours serve the person
Impatience
Waiting as if it never ends
Wait as if it will soon end
Slavery
In the prison of the self
Take wings to fly free of the bonds
The unknown
I left the main road for the unknown
Welcome to the land of discovery
