-- Who Owns the Poem --
by John Herlihy
The poems, they do not belong to me,
They belong to a higher power than me.
Written on parchment in calligraphic script,
Recited by the muse through sacred lip.
When my time on this earth shall pass,
The verses in the poems will forever last.
My ashes scattered to the wind on high,
The body gone, the spirit does not die.
Read one of the poems and shed a tear,
The spirit of the poet approaches near.
Lost in mystery, with no saddened eye,
Echoes of the wind whisper a quiet sigh.
That once lived a man who sat in wonder,
Listening to rumblings of distant thunder.
