Day’s End
John Herlihy
Night has finally fallen,
Darkness has spread.
I’m now feeling all in,
Dinner left me well fed.
I feel tired and weary,
The day has been long.
Some moments dreary,
Others sang their song.
I awakened with hope,
The day as an open path.
Ready to climb life’s rope,
Willing to smile, to laugh.
But now the day is done,
Not ever this day to return.
The day’s web finally spun,
In the fireplace, logs burn.
The log fire now burning low,
Smoldering embers burn complete.
Minutes of the hour still in tow,
Moonglow in the heart replete.
Yes, the moon acting as a visitor,
A bit of comfort when all alone.
Never acting as curious inquisitor,
Its dark light shines pale as bone.
Day’s end draws to a conclusion
Time’s inevitability allows no escape
The curtains drawn, now in seclusion
As if the day no longer has any shape
So now the day stands at an end,
Yet the moment is curiously alive.
Night revealing itself as a friend,
Truly at home as a bee in its hive.
After the day, I will now take my rest,
Surrendering to the darkness of night.
In silence, at peace sleeping in my nest,
Tomorrow, day will awaken into light.

But I think you dragged the poem out a bit too long and a little too repetitive. Could have said the same thing with half the stanzas. Perhaps because you were tired.
