-- A Moment --

by John Herlihy

First there is the future,

Hope bedazzled in light.

A moment torn from the future,

The present moment in sight.

First there is the moment,

A moment when something happens.

Then comes another moment,

When the moment ends.

The moment has a beginning,

Born in the heart of the future.

The moment has an ending,

Found in the death of the present.

We cannot see beyond the moment,

Because the future never arrives.

Yet things will exist beyond the moment,

Because the future always survives.

The moment never dies,

It is always simply there.

On the moment everyone relies,

Into the future we just stare.

Only the moment feels real,

We live in the moment’s heart.

Nothing can the moment steal,

The future and past ever apart.

Time as drops of pressed wine,

To drip into the moment’s vessel.

Born of eternity’s vine,

Back into eternity to nestle.

Today yesterday’s tomorrow,

Yesterday as today’s past.

Today the future on borrow,

The future with moments that last.

Let us walk away from the past,

Those moments had their day.

Let us walk bolding into the future,

New moments blessing to convey.

SPEAKING OF GOOD MOMENTS...THE BLESSING OF A BEAUTIFUL MOMENT CAN LAST A LIFETIME! IT'S NEVER FORGOTTEN AND CAN BE RELIVED, AT WILL, WHENEVER WE WANT. THUS, I DON'T AGREE ENTIRELY WITH THE LAST LINE...I DON'T FEEL WE SHOULD EVER LEAVE WONDERFUL MOMENTS BEHIND BUT CARRY THEM WITH US...AS WE WALK INTO THE FUTURE, FULL OF THE ANTICIPATION THAT NEW ONES WILL COME. A FINE, RICH SHARING, JOHN, ENJOYED. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

As was mortalized by Ram Das, "Be here now." So true of your subject here. There is such value in focusing on moments and allowing the quiet nature we as humans have of being able to manifest in absentia moments of others as well.
