-- Falling into the Poem --
by John Herlihy
Falling into the poem,
Descending into the words.
Floating down thru the air,
As free as primitive birds.
In a blanket of flowing waters,
Coated by enriching silts.
Awash in lilting surround sound,
My heart trembles, then wilts.
Encased within a hollow drum,
Rhythms reverberate as a hum.
As rain drops falling into the sunlight,
As moonglow illuminating the night.
At ease in the cocoon of a butterfly,
Nestled amid the feathers of a nest.
Reveling in the lantern of a firefly,
Lost within the poem is my quest.
Words as sparks igniting to flame,
Verses as children without blame.
Falling into the poem without fear,
Trusting beauty lies everywhere.
