 All Will Be Well-

John Herlihy

I hear the clock ticking,

But I know not the hour.

I hear the birds singing,

But I know not their power.

I feel my mood filling,

Thoughts have their way.

Emotions an onion peeling,

On this and every day.

In all patience I wait,

I know not what will happen.

The unknowing a kind of bait,

Uncertainty on my soul tappin’.

A bird came by its own command,

To land gently on my open hand.

Soon the knowing will arrive,

To feel within that I am still alive.

This simple gesture does volumes tell,

Now I know that all will be well.

I felt a sweeping kind of sensation reading this poem, John. That feeling was like being swept up into the lap of Spring, with a freshness to the act of reading…”To feel within that I am still alive.” Grand two lines: “Emotions an onion peeling/On this and every day.” My favorite: “A bird came by its own command,/To land gently on my open hand.” In contrast to the lines, “I hear the birds singing,/But I know not their power.” ~~ differently for me because of the power I feel birds posses…in being in my eyes the epitome of life itself. A world without birds would be a world, in my ears, that has become mute and me deaf. Song Sparrow, keep singing! ~~ djl
