-- The Silent Palm Tree --
by John Herlihy
The silent palm tree never speaks,
Even if a subtle message it conveys.
With uplifted limbs it forever seeks,
To fill its humble heart with praise.
When misted over with gentle rain,
Or shrouded in the darkness of night.
A palm tree feels no delight and pain,
Only the beatitude of luminous light.
Desiring nothing the tree only gives,
Ever watchful, ever waiting, to reply.
Meanwhile, it breathes, grows, lives,
Never asking life the reasons why.
Standing so stately without any care,
Whispering thru wind its quiet prayer.
