Imagine

John Herlihy

I hope to answer a question

That no one else was asking

I hope to make a suggestion

A unique mystery unmasking

Is it that we think too much

Perhaps we imagine too little

Many reasons serve as crutch

Glass shatters since it’s brittle

The mind as a fluid river to flow

Go places never entered before

Imagine what no one can know

The waves never reaching shore

Lost in mystery of the unknown

Shadows and light mystically sewn

Why I like science fiction. Imagining the world changed by something in the future that we haven't experienced yet. Some of it is predictive, but much of it tells us what we shouldn't do in the future. Perhaps more important.

My dreams are filled with stretch twist and turns of human futures. The source of my imagination… certainly yes.

But I still like and totally believe in John Lennon's imagining that I hope, eventually will come true.

There is for this reader, more subtext beneath the incisive text to contemplate. Such ability by the poet is admirabel, for few discover the phrasing that can arrest such epiphies. It not only strengthens the premise, but allows us to truly take a moment and ask outselfs: "Is it that we think too much
Perhaps we imagine too little". One can't help but wonder if imagination prevailed, would our world have a better chance for survival.
