Stillness That Breathes

by John Herlihy

Clocks beat seconds to the minute,

The heart beats sure to the pulse.

Within me lies a soul without limit,

Time left behind on pure impulse.

Past and future but dated mirrors,

Of the ever-present, eternal now.

To leave behind all earthly terrors,

To awaken beyond time somehow.

The eye of God sees emerging day,

As the unfolding of light upon light.

New journey along a new pathway,

Eternal mystery as an eternal light.

Spring waters simmer within me,

Moving forth silently as in prayer.

The river flows onward to the sea,

Still not knowing it’s already there.

Time not a moment, but a breath,

All sweet anticipation to betoken.

We strive and struggle until death,

A final prayer waiting to be spoken.

YES, I SUPPOSE ONE CAN CALL IT A...BREATH...! THAT 'STILL SPACE' BETWEEN WHAT WE SEE AND KNOW TO BE REAL...AND WHAT WE CANNOT SEE BUT ASSUME IS, OR WILL BE... THERE. DEFINTELY A 'PROVOKER' HERE, JOHN. THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

The poem seems to flow from the title, illustrating beautifully the concept of Stillness that Breathes.

A sound reminder of the precious "moment" we live in. So short, yet so full of purpose. There is much to ponder in this adroit and spiritual whisper of reminders. Thank you for posting.
