Memories Leave a Mark by John Herlihy Memories leave a mark as shadow, Moments in life that cast a shadow. Long dark shadows that last forever, To recall to relive memories forever. Things happened that should happen, Things happen that shouldn’t happen. Not fully understanding what we did, Later fully understanding what we did. Isolated events forever remembered, Big swaths of life never remembered. Memorabilia that is forever forgotten, Stinging slights never to be forgotten. A dire accident with its enduring scar, An insult leaving behind an inner scar. There’s always something remembered, I got you as a thing to be remembered. Like something thrown from the moon, Beloved unique memory from the moon. I LOVE THE RHYME SCHEME HERE, JOHN...GREAT WORK! INDEED, YOU ARE RIGHT; MEMORIES DO LEAVE A MARK, MARKS THAT ARE DIFFICULT TO IGNORE. AT 81, I AM STILL PRAYING ABOUT SOME OF THEM. BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH THERE IS FORGIVENESS, IT IS THE 'SCARS' THAT STILL REMIND. SO...KNOWING THAT I CANNOT DO IT MYSELF, I AM TRUSTING GOD TO DO WHAT ONLY HE CAN DO. THANK YOU FOR SHARING. You've said a lot in these few lines. Memory talk seems infinite at times. As we get older, there is surprise in what we remember now, and of course, what we've forgotten that was long in the memory bank. Seems certain memories that do last into senior age are the ones we can say are landmarks in or experience history. You've penned a well-crafted suggestion of memories that last. Thank you for posting.

Memories can be sweet or they can be nightmares. Like most people I have both. But I have had far more sweet as I've grown older.
