Were you there?

 

Another holiday has come and gone

And it’s been 13 years since you were taken from me

As I sat at the table looking around I wondered

Were you there?

 

I looked at the broken pieces of our family that is left

Pondering on how our holidays were in the past

The people have changed, the traditions have changed

Were you there?

 

Did I really feel your love all through the house

Were you able to be with me, us and possibly visiting other Friends and family as well?

My heart still aching and wondering

 

Were you there?

Fortunately, you avoided a cliche abhorrence by not naming the person for whom the poem is directed. Thus, the reader can project identification freely. Could be a lover, a husband, a brother, a father, hell, even a lesbian lover. Makes no difference. For those who are not cemented to prejudice, love is love.

LISA... THAT POEM WAS SO VERY TOUCHNG, ESP SINCE THANKSGIVING COMES SO NEAR THE TIME I LOST MY MOTHER 2 YEARS AGO... ON MY LATE BROTHER'S BIRTHDAY, SO EACH YEAR I WONDER EXACTLY THOSE THOUGHTS. WERE THEY WITH ME...... THANKS FOR PUTTING MY OWN THOUGHTS IS SUCH A BEAUTIFULLY DONE WAY.
