Forgive me if I doubt
The goodness from above
I base my views on the pain
And I cannot feel their love
Do they listen to dire demand?
Have I something to repay
But surely, those in heaven
Would not behave this way
Forgive me if I doubt
When, of suffering, there is more
I tell God I’ve had pain enough
But no help finds the door
It seems that pain can invade
At will, in time or day
Surely in heaven, on my behalf
Someone a word could say
Forgive me if I doubt
The words that I once heard
At the gates of heaven
I remember every word
It seems a long time ago
Through mists of darkness seen
But, surely those in heaven
Were shown the selfsame scene
Forgive me if I doubt
My commitment was so strong
But suffering accompanied me
Along this path, so long
Love seemed only on this earth
No help from higher realm
But surely those in heaven know
Excess pain can overwhelm
Forgive me, but I only doubt
As humans need to feel
That somewhere there is a power
Whose energy can heal
One day we all shall know
When we can no longer live
But, whatever, I just carry on
As I still have much to give
