They say that a picture

Is worth a thousand words

I don’t know if I’ve come up with a thousand

But I do know that viewing this picture

Has prompted several questions in my mind

Our Perceptions of Life

Is the bag half empty,

Or half full?

Do the bag’s contents

Delight your gardening lover’s soul,

Or are they your worst nightmare?

The Woman in the Photo’s Perceptions

Is she seriously contemplating a career change,

Or is she wondering if the elephant’s deposits

Will end in time for lunch?

The Elephant’s Perceptions

Is the elephant glad that someone

Is picking up after him,

Or is he wondering why a human

Would expend time and energy

Worrying about his droppings?

The Droppings’ Perceptions

If you look very closely,

These droppings seem to have faces

Are they happy that they are being gathered up,

And so quickly disposed of,

Or would they rather fall to the earth,

And perhaps be utilized in some fashion,

By some insect, animal, or man?

Perhaps we all bag up far too much ‘crap’

Throughout our lives and carry it around with us,

Instead of just letting it fall where it may,

And eagerly going on with our lives

And I also fear that I have now become

Only he would think of such questions
