Heads of three bowed in reverence,
Before the white marble stone.
Seraphim’s danced on invisible waves
As they ushered a fallen solider home.
The bugler played his mournful tune,
Tapping out his duties sound,
As they lowered yet another one
Gently into the ground.
The fields still smolder where
The last one fell. While smoke
And ash rise skyward in their
Assent from hell.
Muffled screams amidst mournful cries
Echo throughout the valley
As another comrade dies.
A time of war that knows no peace,
Is what remains of our humanity.
