Cutely portrayed bathing in your Martini...but,
have you ever been pursued by a mouse?
Because we lived near an open field, rodent control was
out of the question...so, we had been seeing signs of just
such a pest in our home of California sun and fun.
One October school day, my daughter had much homework
to do...sitting all comfy on the sofa by the fireplace...when
out of nowhere..he popped in..sitting in the middle of the floor...a staring contest to begin...but, my daughter had
other plans, to escape...on top of the sofa...she did go,
amid screams that could be heard in our parking lot...the
mouse to budge not an inch.
Thinking the worse..as I entered the door, there he was..
and being the head of the household, I screamed even
louder, and joined her...amid the top of my chair.
He must have been hard of hearing, because he tantalized
us..until he had his fill..and just departed..Well, being of
sound mind, I decided he would not get the best of me...
that was after he ate our Halloween candy on the TV, and gnawing the furniture..with a vengeance, as in teething, with
his teeth ever growing.
Weeks went by feeding him peanut butter, cheese..and
various assortments suggested by our friends..to no avail...
Oh No...he was smarter than that..still continuing to pop
right in, and double daring us, to approach him unarmed.
Well, he was eating us out of house and home..and with
his culinary delights we were serving, leaving evidences of
just where he had been..is there no pride?
But, of course he was getting fat..which in the end was
his demise, getting away from the trap..he became too slow.
But, you know, we missed him after it was all over..at his
wake..a tear or two, for quite an adventure..never repeated.

I was stared down by a King mouse in my basement apartment in Back Bay Boston, on Newbury Street. He had the biggest ears, the most determined stare, and was not the least bit afraid of me! I stopped screaming after a few minutes and had a long conversation with him about how it was MY apartment and HE had to go, not me.
Blessings,
Christine
