well now....

Poem Artwork

I flaunt my colour true and bold
and use its strength to spur me on.
The warmth, though silent, emanates
as courage I can draw upon.

Emblazoned bright in mindful eye,
it carries me, bears me aloft
and though it can seem harsh, obtuse,
its velvet tones are calm and soft.

Its challenge means I cannot flail
and falter on my chosen path
for I would there, betray myself,
incur my own relentless wrath

And so my epithet becomes
a staff with which to stake my claim
when all demands much more of me
I'll fight to keep my fiery name.

Once battle's won and softened light
determines that the mood is shed,
my inner glow restores it's calm
and turns a shade of ruby red.

With a society bent on acquiring favor from without, your insightful treatise on what it is to find worth from within is at once arresting and a fiery awakening for all of us to trust the self love and respect we all innately possess. So many live their lives trying to be what others think they should be. To arrive at where you are is readily identifiable to those of us who have had our own epiphany of self-worth and have found contentment with who we are, if not downright happiness beyond reckoning... as I have. Bravo! Continue with you self-realized carpe diem.

I dislike comparisons, but once in a while we get to read words
that are so honestly stated--with power, style, and grace--that also
reach into our collective humanity with daring and challenge. This is such a poem. The great poets of the past were all in your corner when you penned these words, Ruan. I can almost hear their cheers and applause. Superlatives cannot do justice to this masterpiece. For what it's worth, I am so proud of you that tears are flowing down my cheeks!

Fight the battle hard and true, my friend, and I understand that you do. You've been here on AD as long, maybe longer, than I have. Keep being who you are . . . I enjoy your posts.
