Poem Artwork

(There are soldiers everywhere...not just in the armed forces)

Take notice of incumbent air,
bedecked with bandits' glorious grime
Reflected deep in falsehood's flair,
while blind tin soldiers step in time.

Step in time to battle's drums
Focused minds, on soulless beat
Marching on while hope becomes
a senseless drone of calloused feet.

Calloused feet that trample by,
intent on crushing all below,
Obeying thoughtless orders, high
yet brainwashed, so that they don't know.

They don't know that all they do
to buoy such hardship and neglect,
leads to an end they'll suffer too,
as puppets of the 'great select'

The great select, a chosen few,
(believed to be untouchable)
May find dissent, a faith which grew
to wholly incorruptible.

A great takeoff from my poem. The biting reality of those that march in step to a drum beat as though they were zombies, not knowing what they do.

Another way to look at it is Heilbroner's analogy of the world population all riding on the same train headed for the brink. The poorest in the front of the train going off the cliff first, but the wealthy, thinking they are safe in the rear of the train, are pulled off with a rich with no regard for their status for financial power.

A poem that I find stark, harsh, apt, and very real in theme. Your words make me think of the conference on climate change being held in Glasgow, Scotland and soon coming to an end, sadly seemingly without any "tangible" progress. I do like the way your poem flows and the use of the anaphora (repetition of words or lines in poetry) I believe it is called. Love, peace, and best wishes to you, Ruan,

Regis. 🙏🌲💚🌳🍁

“About Face!” is the drill sergeant’s command. And a sharp pivot and 180 degree body turn is the only soldierly response. But “About Turn,” and “yup” are humorous attention getters. As if this poem needs one. The masterful use of language appears with every word. The poet holds your attention from beginning to end with her attention to detail. Even the technique of ending and beginning each stanza with identical words is a clever way to force the reader to follow the flow of the message. And so, like soldiers we obey. Right to the end. Our confidence is stripped away, however, when we find too late that we’ve been led over the cliff like lemmings, aka soldiers. And for what purpose? To show us the outcome of what being a mindless follower can lead to from the point of view of the “select few.” Should we wake up before it’s too late? yup.

Wonderful poem ... this particular form is really quite enjoyable. I can't put a name to the form despite several minutes trying to find a bit of info online. Excellently written beginning to end.

Interesting perspective concerning the men and women in the armed forces.

Enjoyed reading ...

Sunrise of Thought by Bruce Humphrey

Welcome! The poems in this beautifully bound book are a result of over twenty years of observations. Observations of the world around us and on the telecommunications network. All of the hate, love, heroism, disasters, and those who help. Beautif
