Philosophical humor, or so I do hope...

Poem Artwork

Old Age, a continuance…

When one does get old, all sorts of changes do occur,

My doctor herein she does concur,

To another doctor she does send me; yes she does refer,

Better to live less long, yes to ultimately myself deter…

If I could, I would actually prefer,

To be about 25 or maybe even younger,

But I must know what I know now,

The whys and the wherefores and all the how’s…

Must we get old, must we burn out,

Must we take to our graves our last shout?

Ah, to be again quite young,

To be able to get my way when I do pout,

To have all my parts in the condition they were then,

Rather than having my favorite part shrivel,

To the size of an alfalfa sprout during a long summers drought…

Must we get old, must we burn out?

We must get old; the alternative is worse; but we need not burn out. As the very sage Mark Twain said:

Aging is an issue of mind over matter; if you don't mind, it doesn't matter.

And, it ain't over until it's over!
