I am a peacenik and a patriot, what more can I say...?

Poem Artwork

Peacenik…

Okay, so I may be anti-war,

Would rather have been done,

By a disease infested whore,

Than to fight in any war…

But did so, I did still,

Went there and returned,

Memories I got that make me ill,

So of any future war I have had my fill,

No more do I wish to see anyone kill…

Did I leave my mind “in country?”

Or did my patriotism get a smudge?

I know I am now and always was,

A patriot as well as a peacenik, sorry I won’t budge…

I fly my flag with pride of service,

Flying my peace flag also never makes me nervous,

I just have to say that to use back-up troops, yes reservists,

To fight in lands reserved for battle hardened troops,

Seems to me to be a great mistake, yes an “oops”…

After reading tons of words, expressing tons of anti-and pro- war sentiments, I come here and see it said as only you can say it... I support a war against those who committed 9/11... I want peace... I am a patriot. You said all that... but you said it much better than I just did. Good job!! katy xox.

The thing is the best people who support peace are the ones that have seen what war has done. I don't think there is anything wrong with wanting peace and being a patriot as well.

Ed,
I'm a Peacenik and a Patriot also--I believe it's possible to be both.
Glad to see you standing up tall to the courage of your convictions in this fine rhyme you've written.

my sister's son-in-law, a lawyer in the reserves, spent a year in iraq, hugging his laptop, doing no good to the war effort but just there because his battalion went...i have trouble understanding this kind of logic. i too am a patriot peacenik so i liked your poem alot

Ed, I keep telling you, “you’re the Master Poet, who don’t know it!” You have earned my respect and admiration, my friend. I am proud as well as you should be for standing up for what’s right. I too, do not want WAR! Yet, I will never surrender to anyone who wants to kill my fellow countrymen or me! Peace thru knowing who the real enemy are!

Thanks for the peaceful sharing. I salute you or any other man or woman that has had to wear the uniform for their country. But like you I will look for peace above and beyond the call of war. War is not the answer.

We all were backup troops at one point Ed, now we are combat tested and I am sure that you would go if called.
