[I wrote this in 1981 and just came across it, I do hope you enjoy seeing me from a "dark" time of my life...ed]
UNINVITED…
The moon did reflect off the tin garage roof,
Like bubbles of water bouncing off a hot griddle,
The glistening leaves of the trees pirouetted,
Like ballet dancers on encore…
The sneaky wind slunk across rooftops as if bent on mischief,
Now and then rustling the papers in a barrel,
And hastily halting to see if it was detected,
Then again it started its ghostly march…
Rainspouts, garbage and trashcans felt its murmuring presence,
Rufuz too felt its cooling draft as it ruffled his shaggy pelt & sniffed contentedly,
Ever so gently it slid down Murphy’s alley…
Not forcibly enough to create a whine,
Just a winnow sifting through the tenement obstacles strewn about,
Passing onto the thoroughfare and into the opposite settlement,
It gathered up odors issuing from the delicatessen,
Lox and garlic tainted…
The breeze did fan Madam O. as she sat in her rocker on the sidewalk,
And did receive her thanks for lifting the heat for one brief spell,
Its object for the night it sought with abandon,
Although a commonplace person would not perceive it…
The goal of this zephyr, so silent and canny,
Was the high-banked sides of Wall Street,
A rendezvous with others with whom he would merge,
Marked the commencement of a gala affair,
When they whistled and spun through the narrow passageways,
Of the core of the world of financial business…
Beginning small and gaining momentum these wind-lets,
Developed into veritable giants of power,
Whipping and lashing at steel-buttressed edifices,
With intent to do damage to these might kinds of business…
As if resenting their competition,
They recruited more puffs,
To attempt to lay siege to their objects of the night,
Up and down, round & round they tore and they ranted…
Sometimes poling resources and gathering forces out of sound,
For a full garnered attack on these bestial enemies,
So silent and aloof…
‘Til early in the morn they continued their hunt for glory,
When the minute inhabitants of the monsters of stone awoke,
Interrupting their project and sending them away…
Not all to soon though, did these people appear,
For the blitz-kriegers were well worn from the evenings tussle,
Try somewhere else, was the buildings’ parting remark,
Thus breaking their night-long silence…
And the pilots of wind-power turned their noses to the sea,
To reconnoiter and plan their next venture,
Not down hearted at all were they, but still bent on mischief,
They fled off into the gray dawn,
Without so much as a puff at the “Lady’s” torch…

In spite of your struggles at this time, you were able to write something with impact.
So glad you've emerged from the dark.
Chanti
PS: Could your Rufuz be a Rufuz the 2nd or 3rd? I have a cat named Minky (his real name is Ming Son the 3rd). 20 years ago I had a cat named, yes you guessed it 'Minky' (his real name was Ming)
Long live Rufuz!
lOVE tINKA
written in 1981? you mentioned Rufuz... did I miss something? Your style today is entirely different... wonderful, to be sure, but so different. I didn't realize you were writing back then? This is really jaw-dropping poetry!
