I had to put my kitty of 16 years down last November. I held him while he died. Nothing, and I do mean NOTHING has ever hurt as much as that did. Animals love us so unconditionally that we can't envision our lives without them. A heart breaking write Ed. Michelle

The hard part about having animals is the fact that we out live them. The positive being that we get to know more animals in the time space we have. Sad reality. Great write.

I feel the same way about my cats, they are not the aloof creatures that some would have us believe. They are loving and faithful too. I would also love to have a dog, but as I live in sheep country with a farmer in our village who likes to shoot dogs for no good reason, I don't think it would be a good idea. The pain of losing a much loved pet is terrible, but I take the view that it is worth the suffering of loss just to have their love and companionship, though it may be for a short time; and getting a new pet is not 'replacing' the old, it is giving the new one a chance of a decent life with someone to love and care for them. So I hope I will never be without a feline companion.

They are a gift to us
they make us feel wanted
they give so much of them selves
to their masters,
I've had several in my time
Saying goodby to them took too much out of us
so we vow never will we suffer the pain
of missing their wonderful companionship
