...Thank you Sandie Angel for the spark that got this write to start...

Poem Artwork

Rarely do I use it,

I find it has nothing to do with poetry,

I sometimes cringe when I see it,

As part of someone else’s poetry,

I but use only the word sh**…

I think not that it makes a statement,

Though there are few that are profanity bent,

I try to remain to most quite decent,

Though by verbiage I’ve done things,

That I cannot get past or repent…

Of course when I was young,

My mouth was a gutter,

Every other word did start with an “F”,

But I guess back then I had to show off,

Showing to the world my vocabulary was so full of clutter…

I've always heard that a person who swears has no command of the English language. But when you stump your toe or smash your finger in a door or with a hammer ... oooooh, boy, does it feel good to let fly! LOL Am I perfect? H, no. LOL Well done.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

ED - as the former CHURCH LADY on SNL used to say: "Well, Isn't That SPECIAL?"

"Hie Thee to a Nunnery!" It is refreshing to know that the Jersey Devil does have some measure of REDEEMING MERIT! Just kiddin' BRO!

As Ted has said below, about Young Whippersnappers, I for one am Guilty of using such profanity on more than one occasion - BUT - I HAVE AN EXCUSE - although Long in Tooth, with my 68 year-to-date history, inside me is TRAPPED a young TEENAGER, who occasionally just HAS to express himself thusly!

Every once in a while, I like to use the verb SHAT - as the Past Tense of s**t -
as in Conjugation of the the verb: I/you/he/she/it/we/they SHAT the S**T!

or sometimes as the Future Perfect Tense, as in "Matlack will have SHAT in his pants!"

Out of pure curiosity - did my comment of Profane? Insane? happen to inspire this prolific piece?

IF SO - then Ipso Facto - you are WELCOME!

:) :) :) Tom The Profane ...

I'm so glad you don't have to show off anymore Ed, for I would have to put a mussle on that handsome face. Love and hugs, Bonnie

Glad you've cleaned up yer act, Ed; I don't like cussin' either, especially from a woman. Now, I do cuss sometimes, but the Lord's reallllly been working with me on that! I make words up in place of the curse words: spit or snit for s***, flop for the F word, God bless America again for the BIG one, et. al. LOL That way, I don't offend. LOL

Cute write! And that ain't no bulls***! LOL

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :D

I think youth and profanity often (not always) go hand in hand and especially with men but, my father always told me there is a place and a time for everything and sometimes if your character, especially in story telling, is the type to swear then to change that would change his character as well. Something to think about for sure.

I have to admit it sounds terrible for anyone using it and even sounds worst for a woman. Thank you Ed for sharing.

Good one, Ed. In all these years of reading wide ranges of poetry, I have only seen two poems where profanity was truly necessary to the sense of the verse. In both cases, the poems called for a clear scream of exploding fear/anger/frustration; such a clear and dire exclamation is strangely absent from the English language. In both cases, I felt sad for the poets because their poems were banned because of the profanity. But, for the most part, profanity is not ever useful for communication. Kids cuss because it makes them "look big" but they grow out of it. Most of them. Education gives us far better expressive words. Neat one, Ed :-)
