Rudyard Kipling said it very well in his poem:
" ...
For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' 'Chuck him out, the brute!'
But it's 'Saviour of 'is country' when the guns begin to shoot;
..."
We owe our troops a debt in which we cannot adequately pay back. They gave us and ensure our freedom.

One wonders if government will ever get it right!

After WWII there was a GI bill that provided for education, perhaps was out of elation at winning the war that the politicos felt generous, well i can't complain got my engineer's degrees, other weren't so lucky, they vacillated, waited too long, and found the door closed...again.
Probably the new Bill will help some not to be another homeless statistic.

No argument from me, Ed ... none, whatsoever. I'd like to see those in high office live on what we "peons" exist on - next to nothing!!! They say, "Thank you for your service, now get out of here." Thank YOU, government, for keeping promises, made - NOT!

Actually, a new G.I. Bill was recently passed, after a two-year delay. It will actually provide almost enough money for vets to attend college. But there's already a SNAFU. The VA says it doesn't have the manpower to process all the new claims, and, of course, our 'leaders' now want to hand the processing over to private contractors, so once again, they can make a fortune, off the blood, sweat, and tears, of our veterans.
