No longer long hair,
To hard to keep, well it did not fare,
Tie dyes, cut off shorts
An earring & beads on my neck I still wear…
My heart for the sixties still does yearn,
Twas a time when of drugs & music I did learn,
Time does pass unfortunately, turn, turn, turn,
Each generation has to of its time earn,
I try not to of the kids now, regards their music,
And their fashions and such, spurn…
Forty some years since my real hippy days,
Laying on the beaches soaking up the rays,
Before worries of radiation from the sun,
Back in those younger days when I felt I needed no one…
We drank the wine,
Smoked pot all the time,
Dropped acid & did lines,
We popped pills that made us,
Bigger & smaller,
More powerful & even taller,
Listened to loud music,
Till our ears did for mercy beg,
And I’m damned if now I most certainly,
Do not have any regrets,
Still I have not given up my beliefs, just for the almighty dollar…

Not a criticism, just an observation -
Once had a nephew, known as 'Dirty Dan' He quit school, took off at age 16, joined The Pagans, a motorcycle gang, went everywhere, did everything, including drugs and alcohol, made babies he could not support, did time in jail, GOT RELIGION THERE, became a bible-quoting fanatic, was diagnosed as Manic/Depressive - while on Meds he was a hard-working big TEDDY BEAR - he bailed me out with home and carpentry projects more than once, we HUNG OUT together, shot pool (he kicked my ARSE) - BUT - he died at 42 - not from any OD, but a congenital disease, GEHRIG'S.
Some would say that he lived a FULL life in his short time here - but when the FLASH-BACKS hit him, he could be a terror! R.I.P.
Born in 40, I was THERE when Rock N' Roll began, witnessed the Beatnik generation, and the Peaceniks, got drunk on BOOZE more than once, but never did DRUGS. Was against the Korean War, the Nam War, the Iraq War, the Afghanistan War - HELL - all Wars except WWII. But, was too busy trying to support a family, raising two kids, seeing them through college, struggling through the RAT RACE - never had time to PARTY, or get involved in politics.
NOW, I have time to BITCH N' MOAN - and do so quite vehemently. GRANTED - some Hippies did some good things - BUT - some were non-productive DROP-OUTS! The reason for the coining of the word - ANTI-DISESTABLISHMENTARIANISM!
