Drowning...

Poem Artwork

In the depths of my depression,

No job, no money, no life,

Like a man drowning,

Deep is the water,

Time, my strife…

The computer a bore,

The TV a whore,

Death I abhor,

That might change,

My feelings range…

I today picked up a book,

I couldn’t put it down,

Like that of a drowning man,

Searching for a nook…

Reading, that nook,

Found within the pages of that book,

A bit of relaxation, a bit of elation

Depression is a form of chemical castration…

But reading takes one away,

To a place of acclimation,

Where I can exist, in the short term,

Without further frustration…

Though as soon as I put the book down,

I look into a mirror and resemble the sad clown,

I cry to myself, I find pain in whatever I do,

I go through life with a permanent frown…L

Sometimes, especially at night when sucking on a straw to get water for my dry mouth, I feel like I'm drowning. I change position and ignore the idea and eventually go to sleep. The only way I can really get away from the idea is to get up and go to work. Writing, for me it's just like reading a book for you, the way to forget about pain and pass time quickly. Why don't you try writing more than a daily poem. How about a memoir of all those childhood memories on the beach and those wild trips you took in your earlier years?

Just a suggestion.

How well I understand depression; I've been unspired for a long while. At least the hours of daylight increase as time progresses. You really hit the nail on the head with this one. Thanks for the comment on "Fishing With Dynamite". FYI: Square Lake is the town sewage lagoon and the Browns are...well they're not German Brown trout....

Winter when it forces you to stay indoors can
have a heavier affect on you... you aren't able
to get outside for the healing of the sun as much
as you like... it makes the situation no less than
it is, but it does help lift the soul a wee bit...
Read dear Ed, let that lift your spirits and try to
hold on to what you read.

And in your moments of despair (as Budd just mentioned)
know you are rich in what you provide us with and you are
never alone... people here love you even if it doesn't help
pay the bills... it fills the hearts...

Love and Light

Perhaps there is someone you can help. I have found that when I'm feeling "down" that I feel better when I can help someone else out. I'm glad you're reading.......that's a good escape!

Love ya!

I truly understand where you're coming from, my friend...and although I know it's not much comfort...you're never alone. Sometimes it's hard to see light...especially in wintertime, when we're housebound. But I totally agree with the reviews here...you have so many funny stories that need to be shared...you're a comical person and we all enjoy your antics...come on, share.....

And you continue to plug along, my friend. And that's a good thing. There's light ahead; follow it.

Life hits some of us with days like that, especially it seems, those of us who are single ...and it is so much easier to be cheerful when the sun shines. Dark days spent without distraction create a dark mood.
Distraction is what you need and writing is a great distraction so keep writing. How about some of the funny things that have happened to you in life... remember them, write about them - as Lois said, laughter is a great healer. Rx
