This whole write rests on the last line very philosophically. "But to become 1 with the self, there is a cost." However the rewards are plenty creatively. And as Poet Jude Forese pointed out below there is a big difference between loneliness and aloneness; one can be lonely living in a full house!

Great write Ed I enjoyed it!
I like living alone it's very peaceful, but after my surgery they don't want me to live alone anymore so I share a house with my sister!
Works out ok for both of us... :)

There also is a cost of living WITH someone; and it's pretty high, too - LOL. It's a trade-off. Living alone, you're less likely to kill your roommate(s).

An only child is a lonely child - I know, I was one as well. It's amazing how we get through, where others have siblings to help them along.

Born a twin, I was never alone until I was 20, paralyzed, and on my own. Always independent, I sought solace in aloneness, and have spent much of my life that way. Now, I'm all alone even with others present.

So, I believe I know how you feel. Even if our circumstances are much different.
