Up in the middle of the night,
My sleeping schedule is out of right...
I sleep for about four hours,
Then awaken, cannot get back to sleep,
I can go through the day on the sleep I get,
But the next night still for sleep I am not set…
I have stayed up for hours twenty-four,
Then to sleep for 12 or so more,
Maybe it is not insomnia, just my schedule sucks,
Maybe I can get a job to sleep & make some bucks…
I shouldn’t sleep during the day,
But sometimes after being up all night that is the only way,
I dream of people I haven’t seen in “hundreds” of years,
And I seem to miss them to the point of waking up with tears…
When awake I sit in my apartment and talk to myself,
Yes, I do answer myself as well as argue,
Am I going crazier and right on cue,
Or is it loneliness or old age, I’ve not got a clue…
I agree with the other Ed. Changing your environment like going to the beach or walking through a nearby park, and walking… Exercise… And going to bed at a very regular time every night, and then getting up when you stop sleeping (and taking a moonlight walk?) will get you on the right track of a routine of sleep. Also eat routinely and try to avoid caffeine or other stimulants that tend to keep you awake. I'm sure your kidney situation is also causing problems that I can advise you about, and your medications.
I'm sleeping a good seven hours a night, but often get to bed later than I'd like and wake up too soon. And, once in a while have drowsy periods during the day. It's only normal. Your problems, like the cartoon above, are probably more common than anyone realizes.
