Releasing the past is a daunting task.

Poem Artwork

 The mold is cast,

I need to release my past,

Let go of all those bad memories to the last,

Though it’s going to be for me a daunting task…

Such bad memories, where do I send them,

Piling up from the distant when/then,

Eating me away from the inside out,

Painfully like a malignant form of gout…

If I’ve been unable to release it so far,

What makes me think I can do so now,

To start this release I ask of myself how,

It resides within as an odor most foul.

It's a difficult thing to let go of the past when it's as much a part of what has happened as you as riding a bike or driving a car. Just keep looking forward and do what needs to be done each day, one day at a time.

Love ya!

A lot of encouraging comments. People who can identify. I'm sorry, but I can't because my passion is not filled with regrets.

You can either take your past and own it as part of your character (seems to attract a lot of followers) or you can rejected and become a whole new person. I have noticed a great improvement in everything since you moved into the apartment after your hospitalizations. I think you're on the right track. You are writing much better poetry.

I actually remember very little of the details of my past. Tell me a year and I will tell you what country I lived in at the time, but that's about it. Who I knew, their names, what I did, gone . . . . but for the memories that linger.

Hi Ed,

I've forgiven those bushwhackers from my past (including myself), but they still keep popping their nasty little heads up every once in a while. Writing every little detail in my memoirs seems to help a lot. Giving them to God helps too. Good luck and may your wings be lifted.

I think I will simply echo Jerry's words here (except for the word "look" when he meant "luck") Love, peace, and best wishes to you, friend.

Like Jerry, I have learned from my past, but like you, I'd like to dump it and forget it. If you can figure out how to do that, please let me know!

I've never been able to release my past, Ed. It's as much a part of me
as the present, and the future. Good look on releasing it, my friend. I like to keep my past handy. I've learned from it.
