In the dark,

Just prior to sleep,

I know you’re always there.

When I am at work all day,

Alone and stressed,

I know you’re always there.

When just doing nothing,

Sitting around the house all day,

I know you’re always there.

When traveling,

Without companionship,

I know you’re always there.

Always there inside of me,

Thoughts of your love,

Thoughts of playing with you when I get home,

Both of these and more keep me going.

This tribute is to you, Rufuz,

My dog, my confidant, my companion, the other poet here,

The one who keeps my heart warm,

And my laughter happy…

This and much more you do for me, kind and gentle Rufuz,

Never my dog, but my friend,

I know you’re always there for me waiting for me to return…
