A tribute to a world class batsman when he played his last game recently after 24 years of international cricket. He is worshipped by his fans.

Poem Artwork

     Hail thee O! Sachin Tendulkar

A day when the little master played

The last of his great innings

It was twenty four years of winning

 A permanent place  of honour

 In the world of cricket

  He stands with the bat

  Where he once began

  The game  that made him

 Now  this was his last

A day so precious for  millions

  Who worship him with pride

To watch to their hearts content

The last game how  now he played

  The outpouring of emotions

 Built up over  the years

It is a seen that happens

No not often in once lifetime

 He so loved the game

And  for the fans who loved him

  An emotionally charged moment

It was when he ended his game

  The brightest   star fading

  From the horizon this day

   His magnificent tryst  each day

With the bat  is now but over

  He turned around and looked

At his fans and proudly smiled

 Held up his head high

  And waved with his bat

You make millions cry please don’t go “read a banner

All gaze on his face now, watching how he left

But not much was given away

Of his heart how it felt

 Silently the eyes spoke

A lifetime   of love and blessings

In his mind to replay all

For it is now the time to see

 The many hearts he  won

Touched by his worthy, glorious life

Where three generations of cricketers - danced to his tunes

“Thank you, Thank you, Thank you Sachin ”

   More than a million times

Sadly, his brilliance will not be understood on an American site.(try explaing cricket, and after 5 days play it can still be a draw.)

My pal named his sun, Sachin. Damn shame he was bowled out on his last game. But he is one of the greats!

I know little of cricket, but I don't understand the adulation people pour onto people who play games that were originally meant for fun, but have now become big business, partly because of that love and affection that people get for utter strangers who just happen to have a talent for playing a particular game. And the games after all, are children's games, somehow transformed into glorious matches of war between countries, cities, and individuals larger than life. Oh, how small we are to have heroes like these.

Then again, I do like Tiger Woods and a little-known NASCAR driver, Matt Kennseth. Am I starting to worship already? ;-)
