What escaping religion looks like

Poem Artwork

Coup

It was a coup of the mind

A melancholy mood

Bandied about

Beseeching rakish philosophy

Those cracks in the asphalt

Mixed in with coarse stones

Repaired with sticky tar

In lines diagonal and dendritic

She walked to the red door

With a code lock

Automaton punching numbers

Snacks of medication whirring

PTSD’s rage against divinity

That hurricane of tears and whips

Crashing against her torn body

The brain candy stirring

A come to Jesus moment

Rejected and availed

Disconnected to reconnect

For aren’t all phones possibilities?

A skyward god bleached her reason

But she delved into wholeness

Sanity and peace

Comfort-seeking light

Basking apart from confusion

Hedonism checked

But never lost

Terror became embraces

An insomniac well rested

Cheshire grin

Made happier

Through being content

Woe to the reeds

That became oaks

Would not bend

Uprooted by rigidity

Inflexible hypocrites

He didn’t strike me dead

Die in your lies

You were all wrong

One hell of a write.

Unlike the others I found the code difficult to crack. But there certainly were parts of this that I partly understood as some sort of lashing out against something that was greatly cruel in life… Religion?

Even though I quit believing 40 some years ago, I still carry some religious scars. I never took or made my kids go to church, so I hope they don't carry the scars I do. Other Than that, I really can't say it better than Ed. Good to see you posting again.

Ed said it all. You have a rare unshackled mind, a sad genius that has the wisdom of ages. You write when you are ready. If that is only every few years, it is still worth every word. Even the title of this one gives me chills.

What a powerfully creative discourse!
You have only condensed 2,000 years of BS
served up on silver platters by goofy looking men
in funny hats and make-believe chatter. Only an
unshackled mind leaves anyone free enough to
examine life without having to swim through all
that contamination that oozes up from the minds
of those who cannot think for themselves.
Bravo! Danae. And welcome back. At least Odin
and I need you.

A streaming expression that jumps off the page with the pin pricks and knife wounds of scars that continue to heal, yet linger as reminder that change of heart and mind's pacification is not accomplished by the mere flicking the "aha" light switch. Rather, such rewards come by allowing experience to express itself akin to a fading sunset that inevitably must rise again, the cycle upon cycle of life that assures time truly is a great healer.

Welcome! The poems in this beautifully bound book are a result of over twenty years of observations. Observations of the world around us and on the telecommunications network. All of the hate, love, heroism, disasters, and those who help. Beautif
