Can the brain change for the good merely by chemical means? Is it temporary or permanent?

Poem Artwork

Was that the last paroxysm or only the inception?

Was it the earth shaking

under the rebel

as a Bell Tolled,

or a mindless mating

like a callous man

again and again

no partner

ever satisfying?

Did the break

come as breakthrough

or psychotic break?

A good thing

or otherwise?

Do sleepless nights

drain your soul

or awaken Eros

that thief of lost years?

Do cherry soda lights,

strawberry ice cream flurries

in diner dizzies

color your closed lids?

Does chemical sunlight warm your heart?

Or do they damage your peace,

rob your dreams,

make wonder if dark days are coming?

Is this truly a panacea

or does it forebode

a crash,

a slow motion

spectacle

that never ends well?

The throbbing longing,

is it just a one-night stand

or something more,

something pure,

something lasting?

Without history,

without knowledge,

without experience,

You shrivel

under a single

bare

swaying

bulb

The conundrum of healthy vs unhealthy drugs is given poetic staging here with images in question that truly allow us to ponder any and all we might be digesting ourselves. The impact on the way one thinks and behaves is rendered one big question mark. Do some behave because of the drugs they imbibe, or do the drugs do the behaving, i.e., who is master and who is slave becomes the question. You've penned the kind of poetic thinking that is truly worth the time to read multiple times.
