Paroxysms of Pain

How much can we bear?

Paroxysms of Pain

 

Spasm jerks of trauma,

Silent screams of the heart.

Ground teeth,

Agony of gut ripped.

 

How did you get here?

It says, “I never left.”

 

Though you throw, crack, stomp,

We will not go.

Though you kill,

We will not ignore.

 

We will fight with weapons

You cannot conceive.

 

Her body gave out;

His life was taken.

An innocent was born

And lost again.

 

Tears were extracted

Then dams burst.

 

A rage so deep,

A hurt beyond measure.

As if the crust were eyelids,

And my inmost the molten core.

 

I dream of bodies

Piled up,

Never buried,

Pale and swollen,

An ache without end.

 

Did you think I had given up?

Did you think I’d stay crushed?

 

I know you, coward.

We all see you now.

Unmasked

In the time of masking.

 

Where death is not death,

Though we beg for it.

Where life is not life,

But a subterranean paroxysm

Of Pain without end.

It's so good seeing your poetry again. In this case you have reached down into the deep bowels of hatred and exposed its evil like no other poet can. What you allude to is what has often been expressed with the words, "Rise up." No matter how beat down, no matter how much genocide applied, the oppressed always come out stronger than the oppressor.

With so much pain of late morphing uncontrollably, this is indeed a welcome testimony to the multiple ways one is expected to cope and understand the consequences of unabated hate and racism. You have poured your heart out here, purged the multitude of absorbed hurt and made the air a bit cleaner by your inspired wordsmithing. As others have said, "welcome back." Keep writing. We need your words

She's back! And my paroxysms of pain are offset
by detonations of joy! The world is a better place
when Danae writes and my cares recede. Despite the
