Every Now and Then

every now and then
think of another
go out of your way
to give help to your brother

the feeling you get
for helping your neighbor
will make your own day
go a little better

give out of your heart
not for reward
or for others to notice
how good you are

give a hand
even if no one knows
of some good deed
known to you alone

for at least in the moment
when you give of your time
you'll find your own troubles
have deserted your mind

for when others you help
and there is no praise
some burdens you've carried
might slip away

give of yourself
of what you can do
no matter how small
or the benefit to you

for sooner or later
in your life so grand
you'll need a little help
every now and then
