Christmas Cheer

Well here it is, that time of year
when the air is filled with Christmas cheer
Most folks are glad it's finally here
hope I can handle all this cheer

Sure is funny that it comes at years end
would be much better when the year began
Comes at a time when taxes are near
could sure do without that kind of cheer

My credit cards bear a  heavy load
might melt from use like melting snow
Last years bill still leaves a tear
sure need a break from all that cheer

Lights going up all over town
on houses and buildings, even downtown
Parades on main street, the crowds are all here
I'm stuck in the middle, get me out of this cheer

Everybody's singing happy carols and songs
about getting together and how to get along
but I'd make do fine with just my easy chair
that's the break I need from all this cheer

People all smiling and laughing so loud
but I'd take peace and quiet instead of the crowd
Running around and rushing to buy their gear
don't need anymore of so much cheer

Now don't buy me a gift, there's nothing I need
then I'd have to run out and buy you one from me
If you call  me a scooge, of that I don't fear
just need a little break from all this cheer

Even if a scrooge of me you still think
you can still come over and let's have a drink
Just don't make me have to shout it for all to hear
y'all give me a break from all this cheer

So here I'll sit in my big easy chair
I'll turn on the tv and see what's there
Get to rest for one week, then I'll be right back here
trying to recover from, the  DANG NEW YEAR

Cheers!

Although we don't admit it,I think there is a little Scrooge in all of us. If not before, then when the bills come in for sure.
nicely done.

You and I are singing the same tune. We could make a good country song out of it, couldn't we.

Don't jeer, be of good cheer, it's just another year. I think I'll go see if I can find some of that expensive Jim Beam to help settle my mind. ;-)

Jerry beat me to the Bah Humbug part, but I hear you loud and clear. I can so relate to your most enjoyable poem.

Well, Daniel, you've said plenty, be care full with your credit card this year. I still have to say cheers to you, and Merry Christmas too!

Bah Humbug! THAT just about says it all. Your poem put down all this false cheer, and you did it righteously!

Too much cheer at the end of a spear. Enjoyed this humorous take on so much cheer it's enough to make a person want to run away in fear. Happy new year. John
