Catch A Ride

by Dadfire — Read all 70 poems by Dadfire

A symbolic life train as I thought of the old 202 that came through our town as a kid. Got to get onboard to not miss the show.

Poem Artwork

I can hear that whistle, now it won't be long
chugging up the hill as it's comin' along
Got it in my sight, comin' round the bend
can't miss this train, it ain't comin' again

I gotta reach on out, I gotta grab a' hold
to catch that train while it's movin' slow
If I don't act now, I'm left standing here
Better get onboard while my chance is here

Don't stand there staring at your toes
Don't you wait too long, the train will soon be gone
Don't get left behind, stranded in the cold
Gotta catch a ride to find out where she goes

Now I've taken a seat and the tracks are clear
I ain't lookin' back, 'cause the past ain't here
And where she goes, I don't really know
but  I'm awfully glad I didn't miss this show

Don't stand there staring at your toes
Don't you wait too long, the train will soon be gone
Don't get left behind, stranded in the cold
Gotta catch a ride to find out where she goes

I'm gonna let that train take me on down the road
I'm gonna take that ride and find out where she goes
I'm gonna let that train take me on down the road
I'm gonna catch that ride and find out where she goes
I'm gonna let that train take me on down the road
I'm gonna take that ride and find out where she goes

Gonna let that train take me on down the road
Gonna let that train take me on down the road

Gonna let that train.......take me on..................
Down............................the.............road...........

Yes, this would make another great song since everyone is trying to get on, stay on, the life train. I can feel the music in my head.

It’s best to catch that life train when it’s moving slow, for once it starts to pick up a little speed, it won’t be slowing down for anybody to get on board. And before we can realize what’s happening, life has passed us by. My wife and I have been blessed with a wonderful retirement. We have had the opportunity of seeing so much of this wonderful country of ours. I have been to all 50 states, and my wife has seen all except Alaska. I saw Alaska briefly when I stopped in Anchorage on my way home from Vietnam. We have seen things we never dreamed of looking upon in awe. I don’t see how anyone could look upon the beauty of nature and say it was created by any means other than by an Almighty God! I realize there are some who will find my words offensive. That’s all right. I cannot apologize for my beliefs.

It's good. This even reads like song lyrics.

This is a poem I had the idea for, to write to go along with a chapter in my book about catching a ride on a train as a kid. I've gotten back to working on my book over the last few months. The poem evolved into a song in my head as I was writing it, so now got to get out the guitar and work out some music, LOL! But have a few chapters to go yet on the book. Hope to finish it soon!
