Tell me again how delicate life is
and how every moment is so precious,
tell me why the strings of instruments
still my thoughts, soothe my consciousness,
tell me again we take for granted
the basic goodness of everyday,
tell me when I forget the winds
can too be shaped in such numerous ways.
Play for me your keys and chords
from gentle touches of a hand,
play the sounds where nature sings
and time is washed away like sand.
Play for me upon your pedals
the various tones of every note,
play a story that listening creates
without a sound from human throat.
Oh tunes of wonder and delight,
oh gilded sounds of day and night,
oh softened tones, touched and tendered,
oh place where all my worries render
the portal between the meaning and gist,
the infinite space no mortal resists,
the symmetrical paths of music's lift
the noted, played eternal gift.
