I woke up this morning and sauntered out to my back porch
There in the new dawn I listened intently to the doves cooing
Haunting almost in the fresh moistness from the rain last night
What a beautiful sound and feel to my skin in the dampness
A new beauty of this planet made my eyes see more then before
Even the mud seemed to be aching to give a place for new birth
Little bits of grass shined within it also the stones made by time
The rocks where showing their true colors wet from the fresh rain
I wanted to just stay there where there was no news playing
I didn’t want to hear of famine or wars and rumors of wars
I just wanted to sit and breathe in the freshness of our plant
The mountain in the distance seemed ominous before me
What happened I thought in my dreams to make me so aware?
Life really can play a toll on the psyche making one unaware
I wanted to bring this beauty of God’s grace to everyone I knew
Somewhere on the earth a dog was howling shivering in the cold
Why don’t people just live with a love for all things, I thought
I wish I could stay in the strange bubble I was in, so protected
But I knew I had to go into my home and feel the fake reality
People make life seem so hard but really we just need to live
Wake up and walk through this time, can’t we also see the universe
I wondered if I had some say in my life here to come, have I forgotten?
I am sure when I came forth to this earth I was excited to be here
But now with my parents moved on to the heavens I miss them
Did my mother look off and think of the world as I do I am pondering
Did she sit on her porch in the dawn of fresh rain and did she
Hear the doves cooing beneath the ominous mountain
Will my children sit on their porches in the fresh rain in the future?
Just in awe quiet and breathing listening to the doves cooing
A beautiful and provocative write, Theresa. Little children observe things with a keen eye for detail without that infernal need to analyze and poke around in the details of something by muddling it with opinions. If we could learn to enjoy nature and all things as a child, just imagine how wonderful it would be to watch that dove sailing across the air on a beautiful sunny day. (I've often wondered if this is why aging adults have good long-term memories, but grow toward short-term memories because they remember things in terms of their opinions rather than in detail.)
I have often wondered about some of the same things you wrote about and wondered if my mother saw and relished the sounds of nature and life . I think she did as she grew up on a farm. Dove sing their own specia songs...M

After viewing your photo/bio page (I was in awe of it's hi-tech) It was catching and lovely but your poem "blew me away" First of yours I've read (I've been a slacker going through the poetry listings here)
What a wonderful flowing prose/poem of pure honesty and thoughts that I too have thought so often. You know you're good when people tell you that! And the title is perfect.
Seems like we like the same kind of music; Robbie Robertson, Enya, Native American...

Rosetta was born in 1909 as the youngest of ten children. The family had more laughter than money and neighbors would knock on their door to ask, "Can we come in and laugh, too?"

I often sadly wonder the same, and I also love listening to those doves.
