I do not generalize as it would be wrong to do so... further I write from a womans' perspective. However I am fully aware, that many men find themselves in similar situations. How tragic that "years" become the master ! when life is already so short.
Love to all.

Deluded Hopes
Years, a master to a woman, It reveals with time To some of us… deluded hopes.
When you’re so young and gullible The promise of love “forever” Beautiful bouquets you were sent You were wined and dined The surprise of single roses Never a birthday forgotten Care and concern always shown The smile that seemed unending Harsh words non existent Marriage… the promise, The proposition that seemed fulfilling
The vows “you” took… “For better or worse… In sickness and in health… Till death us do part”
But soon… Elation a word soon forgotten The vows… Worse is not acceptable Sickness won’t be tolerated So death seems the option.
This is so powerfully sad, we must cling to hope but when it seems it's non-existant then delusion is not the answer, hope always offers alternatives. Missed your writes dear friend I hope everything is ok with you...(((hugs)))
hope must find a way to be rekindled ... the delusion occurs when it can no longer do so and then hope dies, as you have overtly revealed in this very moving and sad poem ...
"Worse is not acceptable
Sickness won’t be tolerated
So death seems the option."
Such sad verses, Elga; and yet, unfortunately, so true.
Thank you. Love and peace to you. Regis
Dear Elga,
We don't often comment on one another's poetry here at the den because we speak every day by phone and share our poetry this way. I had no idea you had written this but I do know what has inspired it. Unfortunately there are marriages that go this way. Romance and passion that burns in the initial stages may become burnt out embers if not fed. It is so sad that people don't take their marriage vows seriously and don't work on their marriages. We all thrive on love and care. Often love is the reward for love given but sometimes a person will give and give and get nothing in return. Eventually this person will burn out. It is my belief that we need first and foremost to learn to love ourselves. Once we accept who we are and start to love ourselves, we are better able to love without expectation. I know that through your experiences (from what I know and after reading your extremely well written short story) you've grown as a person. You've been through hell (someone once said 'If you're going through hell, keep going') but you've survived and come out a stronger person. Keep your head up and don't ever give up. Yes life is short and it is a shame to waste it.
With much love precious friend

Ahhh Elga nice to see you back and with such a striking poem and graphic. I hope this is not true for you cause not all romance ends that way as witnessed by Dave Harms poem about his love for his wife who has been sick. There is hope and we should never lose sight of it for very long.
From First Love to its destructive end and on to new beginnings, Mary Angela Nangini's poems explore the birth and death of a relationship. The powerful poems are presented in two parts with an introduction to her next book My Ontario Beautiful. (Th
